Prayer of Gratitude

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, Shukran Allah, la illah ila allah, Allahu akbar – Praise to God, Thanks be to Allah, There is no God but God, God is the Greatest.  Repeat over and over again like a mantra.

“Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, “You owe me.” Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.” – Hafiz

Prayer for Financial Difficulties

Bi-smi-llahi ala nafsi wa mali dini allahumma raddini bi qada  ika wa barik li fima quddira li, hatta la uhibbu ma akharta wa la khira ma ajjalt.  In the name of Allah upon myself and my money and my religion, O Allah! Make me satisfied with what You decree, and bless me in what You have apportioned to me, so that I am not in love with what You have withheld, nor do I resist what You have given.

Prayers for the Pressure of Debt

Allahumma kfina bi halalika an haramika wa aghnini bi fadlika amman siwak.  O Allah make the halal sufficient for me so that I do no engage the haram.  And make me feel rich by Your gifts so that I do not turn to other.

from “The Name and the Named” – La ilaha illa llah ul- Malik al-Haqq ul-Mubin  There is no god, but Allah, the King, the Clear Truth.  Repeat this phrase 100 times and money will come to you form unexpected sources.

From Hizb al-Fath

Nas’aluka tawhidal la yuqabiluhu shirk.  Wa ja’al li min kulli dhambinw-wa hamminw-wa ghaminw-wa diqinw- wa sahwinw-wa shahwatinw-wa raghbatinw-wa rahbatinw-wa khatratinw-wa fikratinw-wa ‘iradatinw-wa fa’latinw-wa ghaflatinw-wa min kulli qada’inw-wa ‘amrin makhraja. We implore you for Oneness unassailed by association.  Release me from every misdeed and anxiety and grief and confinement and distraction and enticement and craving and dread and menace and speculation and allegation and irritation and forgetfulness and from every decree and ordinance a way out.  (From as-salauta-l-Mashishiyyah) Wa ‘aghriqani fi ‘ayni bahri-l-wahdah. And drown me in the Source of the Ocean of Oneness.

Prayer for Sleeplessness

Allahumma gharat an-nujum wa hada at al-uyun wa anta al-Hayy al-Qayyum la ta khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm Ya Hayy Ya Qayyum ihda layli wa anim ayni  – O Allah the stars are deep in the sky and the eyes are calm (meaning going to sleep).  And You are the Ever Living, the Sustainer, the One Who is not overtaken by even a moment of absence nor overtaken by sleep.   O Living, O Sustainer, make my night restful and make my eyes go to sleep.

Prayer for Sadness or Fear

Allahumma inni abduka wa-bnu abdika wa-bnu amatika nasiyati biyadika madin fiyya hukmuka adlun fiyya qada uka as aluka bikulli ismi ahadan min khalqika aw ista tharta bihi fi ilmi-l-ghayb indaka an taj ala-l-qur ani-l-karim nur sadri wa rabi qalbi wa jala huzni wa dhahab hammi wa khawfi. O Allah! I am Your slave and the son of Your slave and the son of Your slave woman; my forelock is in Your hands; Your command or order runs through me. You are just in whatever You decree. I ask You by every name that someone has called You, and by every name that You withhold in Your Knowledge in the unseen, I beseech You to make the Noble Qur’an the light of my breast, and the spring of my heart, and the remover of my sadness, and the release of my anxiety and fear.

Prayer to Protect Children

U idhukuma bi kalimati allhi-ttamma min kulli shaytanin wa hamma wa mmin kulli aynin lammah.  I protect you with Allah’s perfect complete words from every shaytan and from every envious eye.

Prayer for a Sick Person

Recite surahs Iklas, Falaq, and Nas.  Say bi-smi-llah 3 times  then say audhu bi izaati-alli wa qudratihi min ma ahad wa uhadhir 7 times  ( I seek protection by the might and power of Allah from that which I must be wary of.) The say allahumma rabbu-n-nas ashaf anta-as-shafi la shifa an illa shifa-ak shifa la yughadir saqaman bismillahi urqika min kulli shayin yu’hika wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘ayn hasidin allahu yashfika bi-smi-llahi urqika. (O Allah Lord of mankind, remove all evil, and heal for You are the Healer.  There is no healing except Your healing

Prayer for Peace

A blessing in the tradition of Sufism is a prayer that comes from the spiritual founder of my lineage, Ibn Mashish:

Alfu salaam, alfu salaam, Alfi salaamin fi qulubina.
“Thousandfold Peace, Thousandfold Peace, Thousand Thousandfold Peace in our hearts.”

Prayer for Forgiveness

Astaghfir Allah al ‘Azim wa la ilaha ila huwa al al hayy al qayyum wa atubu illay.

(with palms turned upward) I ask God for forgiveness and there is no God but He the Living, the Everlasting, and to Him I turn in repentance.

Prayer Before Eating

Bismi’llah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim Thank you God for this holy food You have given us from your earth.  Make this gift holy to feed my body, mind, heart and spirit.  Amin.

Prayer Upon Awakening

Bismi’llah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim  Thank you God for returning my spirit to me because You alone give me life.  Help me to help myself and to help another and to give love and mercy to all I meet. Amin.

Prayer Before Sleep

Bismi’llah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim I put down my head and I surrender myself to You, my beloved god.  Keep me safe and give me a chance to be in this holy journey.  I forgive everyone who has done anything against me, either intentionally or unintentionally, and I ask that they not experience the repercussions of themselves through bad illness or suffering.  I forgive everyone, including myself.  Protect me rom the devils and bad spirits.  And with the Hand of Your Spirit bring me mercy and forgiveness. Amin.

Say Al-Iklas 3 times:

Qul:Huwa allhu ‘ahad ‘Allahu-s- samad Lam yalid wa lam yulad Wa lam yakun-l- lahu Kufuwan ‘ahad
