Help with Pronunciation

Arabic is not my native language.  I am not particularly good at learning new languages.   I have included some recordings and some links to other sites that may help you with proper pronunciation of the Arabic prayers and Qualities.

Shaykh Durkee includes a short pronunciation guide in his version of the Qur’an.  Click on the picture below to get a larger version to print.

The following link is a wonderful resource for working with the Arabic of the Qur’an. It breaks down the grammar word by word with parts of speech, translates, transliterates, has pronunciation of each verse, and so on.  Very easy to work with.  It is done by a linguistic student/teacher at the University of Leeds.

You can listen to and learn more about the Qur’an from other web sites.  I recommend itajweed.net to listen to the recitation, and see both the transliteration and English translation of the verse.  This site uses the Qur’an transliterated by A. Nooruddeen Durkee.  For the Baqarah verses go to the Special Ayah Section.  You will find the Throne Verse 2:255 and Under the Signs of Protection, the 3rd one listed is al-Baqarah 284-286.  For all other  surahs, go to the Qur’an Index.

Another good source can be found at theonlyquran.  You can choose recitation with transliteration or English translation.  You can also choose a reciter.  Mishary bin Rashid Al-Afasy is the reciter on Shaykh Durkee’s site and is also an option at theonlyquran.

The people who wrote Physicians of the Heart have a website to use in conjunction with their book.  They have short, 2 second audio clips next to each Quality so that you can hear how it is pronounced by native speakers, both male and female.  This link will take you to the Quality ‘Adl.  You can navigate from there to hear other Qualities.

Here is a recording of Sidi Ali Sbai reciting the 99 Qualities in Moroccan fashion.

I have 2 recordings of all of the 99 Qualities done by Fethi Benhalim.

Fethi also made recordings of how each Arabic letter sounds

Alif is for Asad is a fun video to teach children the Arabic alphabet.  I have it on video.  Here are the YouTube links to see it.  It’s really upbeat and fun!
Here are just the audio portions:
