Al Mannan

Al-Mannan

The Most Gracious

Exalted and Glorious

Indeed Allah conferred a great favor on the believers when He send among them a Messenger from among themselves reciting unto them His verses, and purifying them, and instructing them in the Book and al-Hikmah* while before that they had been in manifest error.  (3:164)

This name is an attribute of Allah which means the Most Gracious.  Allah shows favor to His creation and bestows benefits on them.

Anas narrated: While I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, may the peace and blessings be upon him, in the Mosque, a man was praying. He said during his prayer: “Oh Allah! Behold, I ask of you because unto You belongs all praise.  There is no god save You, the Most Relenting, the Most Gracious, the Originator of the heavens and the earth.  Oh Lord of Majesty and Glory, Oh Living, Eternal One, of You I ask!”  The Messenger of Allah, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “This man called upon Allah by His sublimest name.  When He is called upon, He responds, and when He is besought in that name He bestows.”  (At-Tirmithi, Abu Dawud, Nasai’ and Ibn Majah).
