Steps to Any Healing

This is a template on the steps to follow in any healing session.

  1. Invocation and Alignment – Begin with a prayer to invoke the presence of God and to deepen your intention to serve God and your client.  Focus on being in alignment with what God wants for this person and for you in this healing session.   Open your heart to connect deeply with God and then connect your heart to your client’s.  I often think of my role in the healing as an extension cord.  I “plug” into God and then “plug” into my client’s heart.  I just allow the flow of God’s energy to pass through me into my client.
  2. Intention – The intention of the healing is to identify places where the client has turned away from God’s love.  Identifying the voices and pictures associated with this turning away.  And once they have been identified and located,  your intention is to then sincerely ask for God to help bring the light to these places.   Pray deeply for God’s help, for only God is the healer.  Open your heart fully to receive the love and then transmit through your heart, the love, light and forgiveness that comes through you.
  3. Identify – Identify the voice that your client is listening to.  Locate where they perceive the voice, inside or outside of the body.  You can even ask the client to put their hand on the place where the voice comes from.  You want them to connect to it, to dialogue with it.  Sometimes if they are having difficulty connecting with the voice, you can ask them, “What color is it?”,  “If it had a texture, what would that be?”, “What emotion does it carry?”  or “What temperature is it?”  “How old is the person with this voice?” None of these questions are important, they are just a way of helping the person to connect to the place that has turned away from God.  Also keep in mind that some people will see pictures, others will hear a voice, and others will experience a feeling, or some combination of these.
  4. Once the client has connected to the voice/picture/feeling, then have them ask what that part needs to feel safe, and loved, and appreciated.   While your client is dialoguing with that part, ask God what healing prayers or Divine Qualities would best help heal this place.  Keep in mind that healing this place does not get rid of it, it just allows it to transform.  Sometimes I see it begin to grow up.  For example, if the voice is coming from a 2 year old, when if begins to heal and transform, I will watch it go from being a toddler, to a teenager, to a young adult, to a mature adult.  If it stops before being fully mature, I go back to see what else this place needs.  I am continuing to say the prayers/Quality the entire time I am watching it transform.
  5. Recite and transmit the healing prayers or Qualities that you are given in guidance to use to help this person.  Learn to honor and work with what guidance you receive.  Learn to work together with God and your client to gradually open up to whatever is ready to be healed.  The more that you can remember that you are not the healer, God is, the more effective your healings will be.  It isn’t up to you what happens here today.  God knows exactly what this person needs for their spiritual walking and it may not look like the picture you have for your client.  Become the “ears” of Allah.
  6. You may be guided to do several different healing prayers or Qualities.   Do not hurry this process.  Allow your client to take the time they need to let go of their old way of being and to allow the new healing light to transform their old pictures.
  7. Tawba – You can tell when this part is deeply healing when you can sense that it is beginning to bow, to surrender its will to that of God’s.  When you sense that this is happening, you may be guided to do some tawba practices together, such as saying astaghr-allah al-athim.  I ask for forgiveness from God the Almighty.
  8. Allow time for the client to come back fully into the room.  Remind them that the integration process may continue for several days or weeks.  Do not go back and discuss the healing because that will take them out of the deep heart space they are currently in and put them back into the mind space they normally are in.   It is best to allow them to stay connected to their hearts for as long as they are able.
  9. Assign them homework (like working with a particular Quality or healing practice) if you were guided to do so during the healing.

You will personally benefit from giving healings to other people.  The skills necessary to give a healing are the same skills that will draw you closer to God.  These include: maintaining your alignment, learning to  receive and embody the love/light of God, learning to hear and trust the guidance you receive from God, and giving God’s mercy and love to his Beloveds.

If you are just learning how to be a healer in the Sufi way, I would suggest you also read the following guidelines:
